Chicken Potholders

What You'll Need:
G and H hook
Tapestry Needle
Yellow medium sport yarn
Red Medium sport yarn
Off White Medium sport yarn
Poly-fiber stuffing
Black craft paint and small brush

Pattern:
Pot Holders
Using H hook
(Create 18 Single rounded granny squares)
Ch. 5, Connect with a ss in 1st ch
Ch 2, DC 2, ch 3, DC 3, ch 3, DC 3, ch 3, DC 3, ch 3, connect to ch 2.  Fasten off

Putting the squares together:
Take 2 squares and face them together.  Start a chain on hook and enter one of the ch 3 loops.  Ch 1, SC 3, SC in each of the 3 dc's of the squares, sc 3 in the last ch 3 loop.  Fasten off.  Repeat this with another square on the other side of one of the squares.  Make sure to join where the seam will be on the side as the other seam created when the first two squares were joined. Fasten off.  (Repeat until you have 6 rows of 3 squares)

Face the right sides together of 2-3 squared pieces, Start a chain on hook and enter into one of the 3 ch loops.  Ch 1, *sc 3 into loop, sc in to each of the 3 dc's of the squares * Repeat to the end, sc 3, in the last ch 3 loop.  Add one more 3-squared piece to the bottom, keeping in mind that the seam must be on the same side as the previous seam made.  SC around the entire perimeter of the 9-squared piece.  At each corner sc 3, ch 1, sc 3.  Fasten off.  (Repeat until you have 2 9-squared pieces) Weave in ends.

Place the wrong sides of each of the 2 9-squared pieces together.  Join them together with a single crochet around the edge.  SC in each of the SC's around the corners as well as the ch1. Join into 1st ch and fasten off.

Tail
Make 2
Ch. 5, connect with ss into the 1st ch.
Ch 2, DC 2, Ch 3, DC 3, Ch 3, DC 3, Ch 3, DC 3, Ch 3, DC 3, Ch 3, DC 3, Ch 3, join into ch 2 at the beginning.  Fasten off.

Face the two pieces together.  Start ch on hook, enter ch 3 loop, ch 1, sc 3, *sc into each of the 3 dc's, sc 3 in ch 3 loop, ch 2, sc 3* Repeat for 4 clusters, leaving 2 clusters and 2 ch 3 loops unconnected.  Fasten off, leaving a tail long enough to sew piece into pot holder.

Head
Make a magic ring

Row 1: Ch 2, 5 hdc into magic ring, connect at ch 2.
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc into same st, ch 2, skip *1 hdc and 2hdc into next st, ch 2* Continue around, join at 1st ch 2.
Row 3: Ch 2, hdc into 1st st, *hdc into 1st st of the next 2dc cluster.* Repeat around, join at 1st ch.
Row 4: Ch 2, hdc into same st, ch 2, skip *1hdc and 2 hdc into next st, ch 2* Continue around, join at 1st ch 2.
Row 5: Ch 1, SC around, 2 sc per each ch2.  Join at ch 1.
Row 6: Ch 2, BLO hdc into same st, ch 2, skip *1hdc and 2 hdc into next st, ch 2* Continue around, join at 1st ch 2.
Fasten off leaving a tail long enough to sew into pot holder

Comb - Red Yarn
Ch 5, TRC and DC in the 3rd ch, TRC and DC in the next 2 ch, 2sc down the stem of the last DC to meet the tail of the original ch.  Fasten off, leaving a tail long enough to sew into chicken head.

Waddle - Red Yarn
Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch, dc, sc, dc.  Fasten off leaving a tail long enough to sew into the chicken head.

Beak - Yellow Yarn
Row 1: Magic ring, ch 2, hdc 5, join at original ch 2.
Row 2: ch 2, *hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st* Repeat around, join in original ch 2.  Fasten off, leaving enough of a tail to join to the chicken head.

Construction:
Fold pot holder in half.  Place the tail in the middle so either side of the open part falls perfectly on the fold.  Attach with tapestry needle.

Turn head inside out, stuff with poly-fiber stuffing.  Center head onto the opposite end of the potholder as the tail.  Attach with tapestry needle.

Place comb on top of the chicken head and attach with tapestry needle.

Turn beak inside out, stuffing tail from magic ring inside.  Place under comb on the front of the chicken head and attach with tapestry needle.

Attach waddle below beak with a tapestry needle.

Using paint brush and black craft paint, draw on eyes on either side of the head or beak (your choice)
